Auditions

Auditions are held on a Friday evening before our regular rehearsals. Your audition will be arranged for a date which suits you.

We recommend that you come along to one or two taster rehearsals before auditioning.

If you have a disability, please let us know whether we need to make any adjustment to facilitate your audition and/or participation in the choir. You can either add your requirements when you complete our Application form or contact us directly at auditions@cefc.org.uk.

What does the audition involve?

The audition will take about 15 minutes and will be with our Music Director, David Temple. We will provide a pianist to accompany you.

You will be asked to sing two prepared pieces from our selection.

Melody line

Firstly, you’ll be asked to sing one or two verses of the melody line of a piece you’ve prepared in advance. You can download and choose from the following pieces

Vocal line

You will also need to prepare and perform your vocal line for Cum Sancto Spiritu from Vivaldi's Gloria, up to Figure 58.

Musicality

David will also check your vocal range and listening skills by asking you to sing a few scales and repeat some short musical phrases.

In a short informal chat, David will ask you about your vocal experience and you’ll have the opportunity to ask any questions you have about the choir.

Preparing for your audition

In advance of your audition, we recommend that you practice your pieces until you are able to sing them confidently and without stopping.

When you arrive for your audition

This is your chance to showcase yourself so you should warm up your voice as well as you can immediately prior to the audition. Breathing exercises and rising and falling vocal exercises will help.

Audition results

We will let you know immediately following your audition whether you have been successful. If you are successful, you will be formally welcomed into the choir, receive choir communications and be invited to sign up for the next full choir engagement.

Unfortunately, if you are not successful, we do not allow repeat auditions.

Ok, I want to audition! What next?

Just fill out our Application form or email auditions@cefc.org.uk to arrange your audition.
