A full house and perfect acoustics for world premiere

Crouch End Festival Chorus sold out Alexandra Palace Theatre for its first concert of the 2021-22 season featuring one of the greatest works in the choral repertoire and a world premiere in front of its award-winning composer.

In addition to Mozart’s Requiem and Brahms’ Schicksalslied, Music Director David Temple conducted the choir and the London Mozart Players through the first performance of Jessica Curry’s Echo on October 24 2021.

The BAFTA-winning British composer was in the audience to hear the premiere of the piece which is based on a poem by Christina Rossetti combining passion and mystery.

"I was overwhelmed by the intent and effort that David and the choir put in to the piece and it really touched me on a personal as well as a musical level"

said Curry who is renowned for her award-winning scores for computer games. 

Temple is hoping that the theatre at Alexandra Palace can become the choir’s new home. Temple said.

"The concert was truly magnificent and the choral sound in particular was as good as I have ever heard.

Much of this was down to the fabulous singing of the choir but it is also down to the acoustics of the theatre which are perfect for a world-class choir."

The Chorus will also be performing at the theatre on January 23 2022 in the “Mendelssohn Siblings” concert. The choir has a busy December schedule with its own “Sing Christmas” concert taking place on December 18 2021 at St Michael’s Church, Highgate in north London.
