Joe Hisaishi Symphonic Concert: Music from the Studio Ghibli Films of Hayao Miyazaki

Acclaimed multiple award-winning composer, conductor and pianist Joe Hisaishi will be celebrating 35 years of Japanese animation film Studio Ghibli, Inc.
This concert will include montages and music from some of the most popular Studio Ghibli movies and under the leadership of Maestro Hisaishi, the music will be performed by BBC Concert Orchestra and Crouch End Festival Chorus. It is definitely not an event to miss!

Claudio Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 has grown to rival Handel’s Messiah as the most popular choral work from the Baroque period. Its contrasts of grandeur and intimacy are captivating, and Monteverdi’s use of space – distanced echo singing and the placement of singers – evokes an arresting sense of drama and wonder. Under David Temple, Crouch End Festival Chorus delivers all the exuberance, beauty, rhythmic invention and true kaleidoscope of colours and styles that run through this collection of pieces. Opening the concert will be a performance of Chiara Margarita Cozzolani’s rarely heard Deus in adiutorium – the very same words that begin Monteverdi’s Vespers.

To celebrate the 40 years of Crouch End Festival Chorus we present a concert of a cappella works in the stunning setting of Holy Trinity Church, Sloane Square showcasing the glorious 40-part Tallis motet Spem in Alium, Vaughan Williams Mass in G minor and Allegri Miserere.
The programme also includes music by Rheinberger, Ken Burton, Florence Price and Adolphus Hailstork, the last three pieces taken from the recently published Oxford Book of Choral Music by Black Composers.

Celebrating their 40th anniversary, the acclaimed Crouch End Festival Chorus bring a very special programme to the splendour of King’s College Chapel.
Under the baton of co-founder and Music Director David Temple OBE, the choir performs Duke Ellington’s Sacred Concert, blending traditional religious musical forms with the language of jazz. The piece has a long association with Cambridge after Ellington and his band performed it at a concert in Great St Mary’s Church in 1967.
The sublime choral music of McCarthy, Glass and Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel promise to make this an unforgettable event.
This concert is presented as part of the Cambridge Summer Music Festival
Verdi Requiem

Giuseppe Verdi was moved to write his Requiem by the death of friends and colleagues. The result was a high-octane work whose expression of grief, faith and judgement drew such dramatic music from its composer that some thought it profane. First performed 150 years ago, and given its British premiere at the Royal Albert Hall the following year, this powerful setting of the Latin Mass for the Dead is one of music’s most vivid masterpieces.
Ryan Bancroft conducts the BBC National Orchestra of Wales with the suitably large combined forces of Crouch End Festival Chorus and the BBC National Chorus of Wales.
